Give Dolly Parton an inch, and she’ll give you back a mile, or, in this case, nearly $400,000. Here’s what Dolly contributed as 75th Anniversary Ambassador for the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, working through Friends of the Smokies:
• Parton and her companies Dollywood and Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede Dinner & Show generated more than $250,000 selling Parton’s limited-edition CD Sha-Kon-O-Hey! Land of Blue Smoke.
• The Land of Blue Smoke stage show’s premiere fund-raising performance at Dollywood on May 9, 2009, raised another $110,000. Parton hosted the premiere and performed for the sold-out audience of 1,500.
• CD proceeds will support Friends of the Smokies’ Trails Forever endowment, which tends to more than 800 miles of hiking trails in the park.
• Just 45,000 limited-edition Sha-Kon-O-Hey! Land of Blue Smoke CDs are available while supplies last at the Sugarlands Visitors Center or online at
